Why I Do Not Fall West
I stand on the high ridges of the Sahyadris...breathing the mist of the peaks.
I look down at the Arabian Sea...the pure blue water and the nearest neighbor.
It is right there.....calling to my ankles...promising a quick end to the journey.
But I do not fall West...yes i cannot fall West.
For there is a law older than gravity...yes a law written in the granite of my own ribs.
That the earth itself must bow before the thing it loves.
And i feel the great plateau under my feet....the hard table of the Deccan.
yes it is not level but it is tilting...tilting....always tilting.
leaning its heavy stone shoulder away from setting sun...Do you see?
yes!! the rivers know it.
The Godavari knows it.
The Krishna knows it.
The Kaveri knows it.
They turn their backs on the ocean that is close and they just crawl!
Cause a "Bengali Babu" is waiting desperately for the'm-e')!!
